Voyage of the Beagle Chapter 3

Chapter 3 covers the year starting July 1832 during which the Beagle’s crew were busy surveying the extreme southern and eastern coasts of America, south of the Plata and Darwin was observing the natural world. The contents are:

 

  • Monte Video.
  • Maldonado.
  • Excursion to R. Polanco.
  • Lazo and Bolas.
  • Partridges.
  • Absence of Trees.
  • Deer.
  • Capybara, or River Hog.
  • Tucutuco.
  • Molothrus, cuckoo-like habits.
  • Tyrant-flycatcher.
  • Mocking-bird.
  • Carrion Hawks.
  • Tubes formed by Lightning.
  • House struck.
